Everyone is getting fascinated by car driving. Driving is possible because of an engine. An Engine provides mechanical motions to a transmission & Car wheels takes revolutions from a transmission system to run forward.
An engine of a car or vehicle produces mechanical work by using other forms of chemical & heat energies & processes. An Engine runs on different types of fuels like gasoline & diesel mixing with proper amount of air.
An engine type mentioned above is an internal combustion engine in which air-fuel mixture is pressurised and allowed to expand to move the piston up & down. Piston further turns the crankshaft.
Car Engines work on a four stroke combustion cycle. Fuel & air in an appropriate amount is used as an intake charge. Due to this intake charge, there are four strokes are produced Viz. Intake, compression, combustion & exhaust.
Strokes are repeatedly occured in a combustion chamber to produce power. We should know how these combustion cycles are producing mechanical motion. So following explanation provides a detailed information about engine strokes.
Intake –
Piston is at bottom position for this stroke. In this stroke, Intake valves open & Intake charge comes into the combustion chamber.
Compression –
Compression of intake charge starts in this stroke. The piston moves up & compresses the air-fuel amount leading the explosion process.
Combustion –
Spark plug ignites in this stroke & explosion of intake charge occurs. There is greater power produced due to explosion which forces the piston Down.
Exhaust –
Exhaust valve opens in this stroke to let the exhaust gases release from combustion chamber. Further these gases pass to the catalytic converter & tailpipe for releasing the clean exhaust to atmosphere.
